Global flying held steady at 74,987 flights in the week of 12–18 October. Teterboro, Le Bourget and Mumbai led their regions, heavy jets remain hard to buy, European charter is booming for one major broker, and GPS interference and narrowing air corridors are reshaping long-haul planning.

Heavy jets stay scarce, European charter booms

AMSTAT’s preliminary Q3 data shows just 5.1% of the preowned heavy-jet fleet for sale, against a 10-year average of 7.0%. Year-to-date heavy-jet transactions are 7.3% ahead of 2025 and median values are up 14%, while super-midsize inventory has grown 11.4% this year. Fewer large-cabin aircraft on the market tends to keep the charter fleet tight at the top end.

On the charter side, Air Charter Service says its European offices grew charter numbers by 47% year on year, with revenue up 86% to almost €130 million in the first half. Its French-speaking business, run from Paris, Geneva, Brussels and Monaco, grew 49%, well above the 3% European average cited from WingX.

Navigation risk on long-haul routes

A Skyband Systems analysis reported by Aviation Week found nearly 2,700 business jets experienced GPS degradation in conflict-zone corridors in the 12 months to August, with NetJets Europe, VistaJet and Qatar Executive among the most exposed operators. The Air Current reports that Europe–Asia traffic is being squeezed into a corridor over Azerbaijan just 85 nautical miles wide. In the cabin, PlaneSense plans to fit all 71 of its PC-12 and PC-24 aircraft with Gogo Galileo satellite Wi-Fi by the end of 2027.

Desk takeaway

Flying is stable, but big-cabin aircraft are scarce and long-haul routings are getting more complex. Book early for peak dates, stay flexible on aircraft type and use repositioning flights where they fit.
