St. Moritz invented luxury winter tourism in 1864 and has been refining it ever since. The Engadin valley's microclimate gives it 322 days of sunshine and the most reliable February snow in the Alps.
The hotels
Badrutt's Palace and Kulm define the season. Carlton and Suvretta House cater to families. The Grand Hotel Kronenhof in nearby Pontresina is the discreet alternative.
The calendar
Snow Polo on the frozen lake (late January), White Turf horse racing (every February Sunday), Cresta Run season (December–February), and the Engadin Skimarathon (early March).
Arrival
Samedan / St. Moritz (SMV) is the closest private airport at 1,707m elevation. Most large-cabin aircraft route via Zurich or Milan with a helicopter transfer or a 2.5-hour scenic drive.
