Hawker 850XP Charter

The Hawker 850XP is a 2006 mid-life refresh of the Hawker 800XP — Raytheon Aircraft's response to the ageing 800 line, introducing carbon-composite winglets designed by Aviation Partners for a 5 per cent range increase, upgraded Honeywell TFE731-5BR engines and a modernised Pro Line 21 cockpit. Production ran from 2006 to 2009, when the model was superseded by the Hawker 900XP with further engine improvements.

Around 105 examples of the 850XP were built. The type sits between the mature 800XP fleet and the newer 900XP, offering a modest performance and cabin technology upgrade without the price premium of the newer variant. For charter, the 850XP is generally the most attractive Hawker mid-size on availability terms.

Cabin dimensions are identical to the 800XP: 21 feet 3 inches long, 6 feet wide and 5 feet 9 inches tall. Layout is a standard eight-passenger double-club with an aft two-place divan or aft galley on some deliveries. Seats are full leather, reclining, and on 850XPs typically appointed to a higher trim standard than earlier 800s.

Cabin altitude at FL410 is 7,200 ft. Baggage volume is 50 cubic feet inside the cabin plus a small external hold. The lavatory is fully enclosed with vanity and belted seat, and includes natural light. Cabin management on 850XPs typically features Rockwell Collins Airshow with updated audio-video.

Twin Honeywell TFE731-5BR engines deliver 4,660 pounds of thrust each. Maximum operating Mach is 0.80; long-range cruise Mach 0.72. Certified ceiling is FL410. NBAA IFR range with eight passengers is 2,642 nautical miles — an improvement of ~150 nm over the 800XP thanks to the winglets. Enough for London to Athens, London to Dubai (with tech stop), or transcontinental US in favourable conditions.

Balanced field length is 5,032 ft. Landing distance is 2,275 ft. Runway performance is competitive for the class.

Charter hourly rates run $4,400–$5,600 in North America; €5,000–€6,200 in Europe. Empty-leg availability is broad. Indicative pricing: London to Rome from £13,000; New York to Miami from $18,000; London to Athens from £22,000.

Against the 800XP the 850XP adds range and cabin technology at 5–10 per cent higher cost. Against the 900XP the 850XP gives up 200 nm of range and further engine improvements at 10–15 per cent lower cost. Against the Citation XLS+ the 850XP offers a wider stand-up cabin at similar cost.

Charter the Hawker 850XP for eight-passenger European or US mid-size missions where cabin size and Hawker-family comfort are decisive and modern avionics generation matters less. Refurbished aircraft deliver a strong cabin experience at attractive hourly rates.

Prefer the 900XP for genuine transcontinental US non-stop capability, or the Praetor 500 for a modern flat-floor mid-light alternative.
