OVERVIEW

Hawker Beechcraft Hawker 900XP

The Hawker 900XP replaced the 850XP's engines with more powerful Honeywell TFE731-50 turbofans — better hot-and-high performance, longer range and the same stand-up Hawker cabin.

IN DEPTH

The complete guide to chartering the Hawker 900XP

The story behind the Hawker 900XP

The Hawker 900XP is the 2007 further refresh of the Hawker 800/850XP line — upgraded Honeywell TFE731-50R engines with FADEC digital engine control, revised winglets and further range improvements over the 850XP. Production ran from 2007 to 2012, when Hawker Beechcraft's bankruptcy ended Hawker production. Around 200 examples of the 900XP were built.

The 900XP is the ultimate development of the Hawker 800 lineage — the fastest, longest-legged Hawker mid-size, and the reference point against which charter clients compare 800XPs and 850XPs. Fleet support through the Hawker Beechcraft (now Textron Aviation Services) network remains solid, and residual values on 900XPs have held up better than earlier Hawker variants.

On board

Cabin dimensions match the 800XP and 850XP: 21 feet 3 inches long, 6 feet wide and 5 feet 9 inches tall. Standard layout is an eight-passenger double-club with aft galley or two-place divan. Late-build 900XPs feature Rockwell Collins Venue cabin management, LED lighting, HD monitors and updated seat trim; some received Ka-band Wi-Fi retrofits.

Cabin altitude at FL410 is 7,200 ft — unchanged from the earlier XPs. Baggage volume is 50 cubic feet plus an external heated hold. The lavatory is fully enclosed with vanity, belted seat and natural light — one of the class's most usable lavs.

Performance

Twin Honeywell TFE731-50R engines deliver 4,660 pounds of thrust each with FADEC control. Maximum operating Mach is 0.80. Certified ceiling is FL410. NBAA IFR range with eight passengers is 2,818 nautical miles — enough for transcontinental US non-stop, London to Dubai non-stop, or Dubai to Bangkok with reserves.

Balanced field length is 5,032 ft. Landing distance is 2,275 ft. The 900XP's cleaner engines burn 5–8 per cent less fuel than 800XP powerplants over the same sector.

Missions, economics and comparison

Charter hourly rates run $4,800–$6,000 in North America; €5,400–€6,800 in Europe. Empty-leg availability is moderate. Indicative pricing: New York to LA from $28,000; London to Dubai from £34,000; Chicago to Aspen from $18,000.

Against the 800XP the 900XP adds 200+ nm of range, modern engines and cabin technology at 10–15 per cent higher cost. Against the 850XP the 900XP offers modest range and fuel-burn improvements. Against the Learjet 60 the 900XP wins on cabin size and comfort, gives up speed.

Verdict

Charter the Hawker 900XP for eight-passenger transcontinental US or European mid-size missions where cabin size, Hawker-family reliability and non-stop range matter. It is the ultimate Hawker mid-size and the last of the line.

Prefer the Praetor 500 for a modern flat-floor mid-light alternative, or the Citation Latitude for a modern flat-floor mid-size. For classic Hawker cabin at maximum range and comfort, the 900XP is the pick of the family.

WHO SHOULD CHARTER THIS

Why choose the Hawker 900XP?

The right client profile for the 900XP: 8 passengers, missions inside its 2,818 nm range, and routes where the midsize jet cabin size is the sweet spot between cost and comfort.

  • Hot-and-high performance upgrade
  • Longer range than 850XP
  • Quiet, low-cabin-altitude environment

RANGE & LIMITATIONS

What the 900XP can — and can't — do

Non-stop range

2,818 nm with typical payload. Missions beyond this figure require a technical fuel stop — expect 30–45 minutes on the ground and a modest re-quote. On strong headwinds or full-cabin days the practical range trims by 5–10%.

Runway requirement

Balanced-field length around 5,032 ft. Rules out very short-strip airfields (Courchevel, Lugano, London City steep-approach) unless the airframe is specifically certified — our ops team validates every airport pairing before we confirm the quote.

Payload & baggage

50 cu ft of hold space with 8 passengers. Ski, golf and dive equipment fit for most parties; larger groups with full luggage should size up one category to preserve the range figure above.
