Gulfstream G100 (Astra SPX) Charter

The Gulfstream G100 was IAI's rebranded Astra SPX — an evolution of the Israel-designed Astra series adopted into Gulfstream's line-up in 2002 following General Dynamics' acquisition of Galaxy Aerospace. Production of the Astra/G100 line ran from the mid-1980s through 2006, with around 200 aircraft built across all variants. The type was replaced by the G150 in 2006.

The G100 is now a mature type: airframes are inexpensive on the pre-owned market and charter hourly rates are among the most attractive in the mid-size class. Fleet support through Gulfstream and third-party providers remains reasonable, and the type has a devoted operator community.

Cabin dimensions: 17 feet 1 inch long, 4 feet 9 inches wide and 5 feet 7 inches tall — noticeably narrower than modern peers. Standard layout is a six-passenger club-four plus two-place divan. Cabin management is dated on unrefurbished aircraft; some fleets have received Iridium and cabin display retrofits.

Cabin altitude at FL410 is 8,000 ft. Baggage volume is 55 cubic feet. The lavatory is enclosed but compact. The G100 cabin experience is meaningfully behind modern mid-light peers.

Twin Honeywell TFE731-40R engines deliver 4,250 pounds of thrust each. Maximum operating Mach is 0.85 — one of the class's fastest. Certified ceiling is FL450. NBAA IFR range with four passengers is 2,850 nautical miles — enough for transcontinental US or London to Dubai with tech stop.

Balanced field length is 5,900 ft — long, the type's main operational constraint.

Charter hourly rates run $4,200–$5,300 in North America; €4,800–€6,000 in Europe — among the lowest in the mid-size class. Empty-leg availability is broad. Indicative pricing: New York to Chicago from $10,000; London to Rome from £13,000.

The G100 is the value option in the mid-size class. It suits budget-driven missions with four to five passengers where speed matters more than cabin comfort. Prefer the G150 for a Gulfstream-branded upgrade, or a Praetor 500 for a materially better modern alternative.
