IN DEPTH

The complete guide to chartering the Gulfstream G800

The story behind the Gulfstream G800

The Gulfstream G800 is Gulfstream's answer to the Bombardier Global 8000: the G700 cabin re-optimised for maximum range. Launched in 2021 and certified in 2025, the G800 pairs the G700's Symmetry flight deck and 4,850 ft cabin altitude with 8,200 nautical miles of NBAA IFR range at long-range cruise — the highest brochure range in production business aviation. Deliveries began in 2025 and will build through 2026–2027 as the type replaces late-build G650ERs in the Gulfstream ULR line.

For charter clients the G800 is the ultimate Gulfstream ULR platform — the aircraft to specify when a client insists on a Gulfstream and simultaneously requires 8,000-plus-nm mission capability. Direct competition is the Bombardier Global 8000; the two aircraft trade nose-for-nose on range and cabin philosophy, with Gulfstream offering a slightly longer nominal range and Bombardier offering a wider, four-zone cabin format.

On board

Cabin dimensions: 46 feet 10 inches long, 8 feet 2 inches wide and 6 feet 3 inches tall — the Gulfstream large-cabin cross-section carried across the G500/G600/G700/G800 family. Standard layout is a 19-passenger four-zone configuration including forward crew rest, forward club-four, mid-cabin conference or club-six, entertainment lounge and aft private stateroom. Cabin management is standard PlaneView Cabin with 4K displays, voice control, Bluetooth pairing and Ka-band Wi-Fi.

Cabin altitude at FL410 is 2,916 ft — best-in-class alongside the Global 8000. Gulfstream's 100 per cent fresh-air ventilation replaces cabin air every two minutes; ionisation and low-cabin-altitude cruise are the twin pillars of the current Gulfstream cabin-wellness story. Baggage volume is 195 cubic feet, in-flight accessible.

Performance

Twin Rolls-Royce Pearl 700 engines deliver 18,250 pounds of thrust each with G800-specific tuning for improved cruise efficiency. Maximum operating Mach is 0.935; long-range cruise Mach 0.85. Certified ceiling is FL510. NBAA IFR range with eight passengers at long-range cruise is 8,200 nautical miles — the highest in production business aviation. At Mach 0.90 high-speed cruise the G800 delivers 7,000 nm — still class-leading among production aircraft.

Balanced field length at MTOW is 6,000 ft. Landing distance is 3,000 ft. The Symmetry flight deck with active-control side-sticks, 10 combined-vision touch-screen displays and Gulfstream's combined-vision head-up display remains the reference business-jet cockpit alongside the Bombardier Vision Flight Deck.

Missions, economics and verdict

Charter hourly rates run $19,000–$23,000 in North America; €19,500–€24,000 in Europe. Empty-leg availability through 2027 will be minimal. Indicative pricing: London to Sydney from £355,000; Los Angeles to Bangkok from $335,000; Perth to Zurich from AU$425,000; Hong Kong to New York from $320,000.

Against the G700 the G800 adds 700 nm of range at 10 per cent higher cost with a slightly shorter cabin. Against the Bombardier Global 8000 the G800 offers 200 nm more brochure range and Gulfstream service network against Bombardier's wider four-zone cabin. Charter the G800 when the mission requires Gulfstream ULR capability at maximum range, and cabin format matters less than nonstop capability.

WHO SHOULD CHARTER THIS

Why choose the Gulfstream G800?

The right client profile for the G800: 13–19 passengers, missions inside its 8,000 nm range, and routes where the ultra long range cabin size is the sweet spot between cost and comfort.

  • 8,000 nm range with full payload
  • Lowest cabin altitude in private aviation
  • Active-control sidesticks and Symmetry flight deck

RANGE & LIMITATIONS

What the G800 can — and can't — do

Non-stop range

8,000 nm with typical payload. Missions beyond this figure require a technical fuel stop — expect 30–45 minutes on the ground and a modest re-quote. On strong headwinds or full-cabin days the practical range trims by 5–10%.

Runway requirement

Balanced-field length around 6,000 ft. Rules out very short-strip airfields (Courchevel, Lugano, London City steep-approach) unless the airframe is specifically certified — our ops team validates every airport pairing before we confirm the quote.

Payload & baggage

195 cu ft of hold space with 13–19 passengers. Ski, golf and dive equipment fit for most parties; larger groups with full luggage should size up one category to preserve the range figure above.

FAQ

Frequently asked

Is Wi-Fi available onboard?

Yes — most aircraft in this class offer high-speed Ka-band or Starlink connectivity suitable for video calls and streaming throughout cruise.

Can pets fly on board?

Many operators permit pets in the cabin, subject to aircraft-owner approval, destination rules, documentation and any operator-specific charges. Tell us the species and weight when you request a quote.

How quickly can the aircraft be ready?

Once a quote is confirmed, this aircraft can typically be positioned within 2–4 hours anywhere in its home region, and within 24 hours globally.

Methodology and sources— how these numbers are built

Purchase price band

The €62.32m€92.72m band is an indicative pre-owned range for a well-maintained, mid-life Gulfstream G800 on a current maintenance and engine programme, in a typical European charter specification. It is built from published asking prices and retail transaction ranges (Duncan Aviation market letters, AvBuyer and Controller listings, VREF and Aircraft Bluebook retail guidance), then narrowed against what our desk sees pay-and-close in Europe. The model uses a single point inside that band, €76,000,000, so the five-year output is reproducible. Serial number, total time, cycles, engine-programme enrolment, avionics mandates, interior age and import/VAT status routinely move a real transaction outside the band in either direction.

Fixed cost assumptions

€950,000 a year covers two (or, for larger cabins, three) crew with training and recurrent sim, hangarage at a European base, hull and liability insurance, the management fee on a third-party AOC, navigation and weather subscriptions, and scheduled non-flying charges. It excludes financing, tax, extraordinary maintenance events and cabin refurbishment. Sources are operator and management-company budget templates for the type, cross-checked against NBAA and Conklin & de Decker fixed-cost structures.

Direct operating cost per hour

€3,600 per aircraft hour is fuel at prevailing European Jet A-1 pricing, engine and airframe programme accruals, APU and landing-gear reserves, landing, handling and navigation fees, catering and crew expenses. It is applied to actual aircraft hours, not occupied hours: owner trips carry a 15% positioning uplift and third-party charter carries 20%, which is what repositioning empty legs cost in practice.

Charter revenue estimate

140 third-party occupied hours a year at a wholesale base rate of €10,200 per hour is what a managed Gulfstream G800 realistically sells in Europe once owner availability, maintenance downtime and seasonality are taken out — not the retail rate a client pays. The rate is the operator-level rate band we transact at on Avinode and directly with operators; the owner keeps 85% under a standard management agreement, with the balance retained by the operator. Ferry, fuel surcharges, de-icing and overnights on charter missions are captured in the direct-cost line rather than netted off the rate.

Depreciation and the five-year frame

25% market depreciation is applied over a 5-year hold, with 2% acquisition costs (inspection, legal, delivery) at entry and 3% selling costs at exit. Owner utilisation is held at 100 occupied hours a year across every aircraft so types can be compared like for like. Capital opportunity cost is shown separately at 4% simple per year and is not added into the cash cost. The same frame drives our ownership vs charter vs fractional analysis and the most profitable jets to own ranking, so the three never disagree.

Review cadence

Values are reviewed each quarter against the same sources and re-published in one dataset, so every aircraft page moves together. Read our editorial standards for how we source and correct figures.

Indicative planning estimates prepared by the Limitless Sky desk — not an appraisal, charter quotation, offer or tax advice. Figures are pre-tax and pre-financing and exclude recoverable VAT, extraordinary maintenance and substitute lift during downtime. Actual values depend on serial number, hours, maintenance and engine-programme status, specification, base and charter demand. Ask the desk for a tail-specific forecast, or charter the Gulfstream G800 instead and skip the balance sheet entirely.
