Jamaica is an easy island to reach by private jet, but it isn't a one-airport island. Three airports can clear you into the country, and they suit very different trips: Montego Bay for the north-west coast and Negril, Kingston for the capital, and the small Ian Fleming airport for Ocho Rios. Choosing the right one, matching the cabin to your departure city and getting the arrival paperwork done early are most of the planning. This is how we plan a Jamaica charter on the desk.
The short answer
Most leisure trips land at Sangster International in Montego Bay (MBJ), where a private terminal handles customs and immigration. From Miami it's a short hop of about 460 nm, so a light jet is usually enough. From New York (about 1,360 nm from Teterboro) light jets are within published range and midsize cabins are more comfortable. From London (about 4,060 nm), a heavy or ultra-long-range jet flies nonstop.
Every passenger completes Jamaica's free online C5 declaration before arrival, and the operator files the charter landing permit and the CARICOM advance passenger information. Send us your dates, passengers, bags and any pets, and you get an estimated price per aircraft class straight away, then two or three confirmed options within 1–2 hours, 24/7.
Which airport: Montego Bay, Kingston or Ian Fleming?
The US FAA and Jamaica's airport data list three airports of entry. Business-aviation guidance notes that you have to clear in and out at one of these even if you then fly on to a smaller domestic strip.
| Airport | Best for | Runway (published) | Private-aviation handling |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sangster International, Montego Bay (MBJ / MKJS) | Montego Bay, Rose Hall, the north-west coast and Negril | 8,734 ft × 150 ft (2,662 m) | Signature MBJ (formerly I.A.M. Jet Centre) private terminal with on-site customs and immigration |
| Norman Manley International, Kingston (KIN / MKJP) | Kingston and business trips | about 8,910 ft (2,716 m) | Airways International, a general-aviation handler on the field |
| Ian Fleming International, Boscobel (OCJ / MKBS) | Ocho Rios and the north coast east of it | about 4,770 ft (1,454 m) | Airport FBO; airport and customs hours 07:00–19:00 local |
Montego Bay is the default. The Airports Authority of Jamaica calls it the island's leading tourism gateway, within easy driving distance of Montego Bay, Ocho Rios and Negril. Signature lists its MBJ terminal hours as 07:00–19:00 local, with call-out on request. Business-aviation guidance says the airport normally operates 06:00–23:59 local, and night movements between midnight and 06:00 need prior permission because of noise rules, so we plan late arrivals around that.
Kingston suits business travel. The Airports Authority describes Norman Manley as about twenty minutes from Kingston's business centre, and its runway takes the largest business jets.
Ian Fleming puts you closest to Ocho Rios, about 14.5 km away. Its runway is a little under 4,800 ft, so it's a field for smaller jets and turboprops, and the operator confirms performance for the specific aircraft before we book it. If a larger cabin is the better choice for your group, we land at Montego Bay and arrange the drive.
Which private jets fly to Jamaica nonstop?
It depends on where you start. The distances below are great-circle distances between the airports, and the flight times are our estimates from typical cruise speeds, so winds and routing move them.
- From Miami (Opa-locka, about 460 nm to MBJ, 520 nm to KIN): every jet class flies nonstop. Estimated flight time is about 1 h 15 min to 1 h 30 min.
- From New York (Teterboro, about 1,360 nm to MBJ): light jets such as the Phenom 300 (2,010 nm published range) are within range, and the operator confirms the nonstop against winds, passengers and bags. Midsize and super-midsize jets add cabin space and margin. Estimated flight time is about 3 h to 3 h 30 min.
- From Toronto (about 1,510 nm): similar to New York, with a little more distance. A midsize jet or larger is the comfortable nonstop.
- From London (Farnborough, about 4,060 nm): heavy and ultra-long-range jets fly nonstop, such as the Falcon 7X (5,950 nm) or the Global 6000 (6,000 nm). Super-midsize jets like the Challenger 350 need a fuel stop. Estimated nonstop flight time is about 8 h 30 min to 9 h 30 min.
What a private jet to Jamaica costs
Jamaica doesn't yet have fixed route tables on our site, so the honest starting point is our published hourly rates. From our cost-per-hour guide, 2026 retail rates run:
| Class | Typical aircraft | Hourly rate (USD) |
|---|---|---|
| Light jet | Phenom 300, Citation CJ3+ | $3,500–$5,500 |
| Midsize jet | Hawker 900XP, Citation XLS+ | $5,500–$7,500 |
| Super-midsize | Challenger 350, Praetor 600 | $7,500–$9,500 |
| Heavy jet | Falcon 7X, Challenger 605 | $9,500–$13,000 |
| Ultra-long-range | Gulfstream G650, Global 7500 | $13,000–$20,000+ |
As a worked example, a Miami to Montego Bay sector of about 1.5 flight hours in a light jet is roughly $5,000–$8,000 of flight time at those rates. That is not a quote. A one-way charter usually also carries the aircraft's empty flight home, and fees, taxes and handling are added on top, so the final number depends on where the aircraft is based, your dates and the return plan. Send your dates through the quote form for an estimate per aircraft class.
One-way, round trip, or the aircraft stays?
For a week in Jamaica, what the aircraft does during your stay matters as much as the hourly rate:
- The aircraft stays. Good for short trips. You pay crew accommodation and parking, but nobody flies empty.
- The aircraft goes home and comes back. Better for longer stays, but it adds two empty sectors, which we price openly.
- Two one-ways. If a return charter or an empty leg lines up, a separate return can cost less.
Arrival: the C5 form, the landing permit and APIS
Jamaica clears private passengers quickly, but the paperwork starts before you leave.
- The C5 Passenger Declaration. Since 1 September 2023, every arriving passenger must complete the Electronic Passenger Declaration (C5) at enterjamaica.gov.jm, according to the Jamaica Customs Agency. It's free, covers both immigration and customs, and can be submitted up to 30 days before the trip. Each traveller, including children, needs their own form. Visit Jamaica warns against third-party sites that charge a fee. We send you the official link with the trip confirmation.
- Passports and visas. Every traveller needs a valid passport. The FAA's country guide notes that US citizens don't need a visa; other nationalities should check with Jamaica's Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency.
- Charter landing permit. Business-aviation guidance says landing permits are needed for charter flights, with an official lead time of four working days, often processed in about three. The Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority works Monday to Friday, 08:00–16:00 local, which is why we ask for passport details early on short-notice and weekend trips.
- CARICOM APIS. Jamaica requires advance passenger information for everyone on board, filed at least 30 minutes before departure for private flights. Customs checks it on arrival. The operator or handler files it from the passport details we collect.
Flying home to the US? Your first US landing has to be at an airport with customs, and the operator files the US advance passenger information before departure. We plan the return field around customs hours.
Flying to Jamaica with your dog or cat
Pets are possible, but Jamaica's rules are strict and take time, and they apply on a private jet the same as on an airline. From Jamaica's Ministry of Agriculture guidelines:
- Dogs and cats can only come directly from a country on Jamaica's approved Category 1 list, and arrivals without a valid Veterinary Import Permit are refused entry.
- The process starts with a preliminary application, including a rabies antibody (FAVN) test result. Only after it's approved can you apply for the permit, which then sets the tests, vaccinations and treatments with deadlines tied to your travel date.
- Jamaica is not part of any pet passport scheme, so an EU or UK pet passport doesn't replace the permit.
- The ministry asks importers to allow a clear 30 days before travel to prepare the animal, and to give at least three weeks' notice of arrival with a 72-hour confirmation.
The government's trade-portal description of the procedure also mentions quarantine of at least 14 days at the national facility. The permit is what sets the conditions for your pet, so we wait for it before we plan the flight around the animal.
Timing, weather and empty legs
The Atlantic hurricane season runs from 1 June to 30 November, according to NOAA, so we keep an eye on the forecast for late-summer and autumn trips and agree a plan B on dates before contracting. The Caribbean's busy private-aviation season runs through the winter, and the weeks around Christmas and New Year fill first.
Aircraft that drop clients in the Caribbean often fly back empty toward Florida and the Northeast. Our cost guide puts empty-leg pricing typically 25–75% below the on-demand rates when one lines up with your dates.
- Get an on-demand quote so you have a firm plan A.
- Set an empty-leg alert for Jamaica in both directions, or run a quick AI empty-leg search.
- If a matching leg appears in your window, we confirm the operator, the exact aircraft and the all-in price before you commit.
